Job Information

The Department of Journalism + Media in the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA) at Florida International University seeks applicants for a nine-month, full-time, multi-year, non-tenure earning Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor of Professional Practice in Broadcast/Digital Journalism.

The Department's teaching philosophy is to educate through immersive learning opportunities. We are seeking an experienced and energetic professional to leverage our South Florida Media Network Complex and to teach our undergraduate and graduate students the theory and practice of broadcast journalism combined with the latest methods to harness social media for audience engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have a passion for integrating storytelling, journalism and technology, and show a portfolio of current work in broadcast journalism paired with social media content. A minimum bachelor's degree in Journalism and Communication is required, combined with at least 10 years of current experience in broadcast/digital journalism and reporting across media.  A record of successful teaching at the university level is preferred.


The ideal candidate will be passionate about mentoring next-generation journalists and will identify trends and emerging platforms to help us train future reporters and producers. Our program is recognized for developing innovative community-based programs and projects. Our broadcasting students participate in comprehensive internships at Univision and other local news organizations. This is a full-time, nine-month, multi-year, non-tenure earning clinical professional practice appointment (initial appointment of three years) and is renewable upon mutual consent. The initial appointment will begin in August 2021.
