The Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media in the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA) at Florida International University seeks applicants for a full-time, non-tenure-earning Clinical Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in Broadcast/Digital Journalism.

The School’s teaching philosophy is to educate through immersive learning opportunities. We are seeking an experienced and energetic professional to teach our students the theory and practice of multimedia journalism, podcasting, video editing and studio work.

Central to this job is guiding students through the process of publishing their work on the South Florida Media Network, our award-winning, faculty-administered and faculty-edited student publishing platform.

The successful candidate will show a portfolio of work that demonstrates expertise in integrating storytelling, media and technology. They will have an ability to prepare and mentor next-generation media professionals, as well as to identify trends and emerging platforms to help us to improve training. The candidate will be expected to teach courses in beginning and intermediate multimedia production as well as studio production.

The Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media includes one of the nation’s only graduate programs in Spanish language journalism. Across multiple platforms, we are recognized for developing innovative community-based programs and projects. Our students participate in comprehensive internships at Univision, NBC Universal, EW Scripps & Co. and other major news organizations.

This is a full-time, nine-month, multi-year, non-tenure-earning clinical professional practice appointment (initial appointment of three years) and is renewable upon mutual consent. This position requires a master’s degree or an equivalent amount of professional experience in journalism or a related field. Current experience reporting across media, and excellence in teaching in an academic environment are preferred. We welcome candidates from groups previously underrepresented in academia and journalism, including candidates with non-linear, interdisciplinary professional backgrounds. Fluency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole is a plus.
