A full-time employment opportunity is available for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Maria Clara Franco at the Center of Translational Science (https://cts.fiu.edu/people/maria-clara-franco/) located in the beautiful Treasure Coast region of Florida in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. We are a vibrant, diverse, and collaborative research group working on multiple projects studying the role of redox signaling in disorders of the nervous system, with a focus on tumor development and neurodegeneration. Topics studied in the lab include protein structure and function, cell signaling and metabolic pathways, animal models of disease, and drug screenings. The appointee will work on a cutting-edge project involving the identification of novel oxidized proteins that regulate tumor cell proliferation and migration. Our goal is to exploit these targets for the development of tumor-directed therapeutic approaches. Dr. Franco is a trained mentor who strives to advance the career of her trainees. The position will be renewed on a yearly basis.

Responsibilities: 

• Maintain mammalian cell lines  

• Grow cell cultures from tumor specimens 

• Work with mouse models of human disorders 

• Take the initiative in finding solutions to scientific problems that arise in day-to-day research. 

• Collegially and professionally engage in collaborative work with peers with the aim to achieve the above objectives. 

• Present original research at scientific meetings. 

• Publish the research results in peer-reviewed high-impact scientific journals. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or related field. 

• Demonstrated creativity, independence, high motivation, and good communication skills, 

both orally and written. 

• Strong work habits and the ability to work independently as well as with a research group. 

 

Preferences: 

• Experience in:

  • CRISPR methodology 
  • Working with animal models (rodents) 
  • Cell culture 
  • Microscopy and immunofluorescence methodologies 
  • Basic molecular biology methodologies: western blot analysis, qPCR 
  • Writing and developing publications based on individual research.
