The Herbert and Nicole Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts at Florida International University is seeking a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-earning Assistant Teaching Professor of Violin, to teach as part of our string program, beginning August 2024. The key responsibilities include the following:

 

  1. Teach a range of violin courses, including individual and group lessons, and chamber music, to undergraduate and graduate students.
  2. Provide guidance and mentorship to students, helping them develop their technical and musical skills.
  3. Prepare and conduct engaging and effective violin ensemble rehearsals.
  4. Contribute to the development of the music curriculum and assist in ongoing program assessment and improvement.
  5. Collaborate with other faculty members and participate in School meetings and committees.
  6. Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with the latest trends and best practices in violin pedagogy and performance.
  7. Maintain an active presence in the music community through performances, recitals, and collaborations, both locally and nationally.
  8. Assist in recruiting and auditioning prospective music students.

 

The qualifications we are seeking are as follows:

  1. A Master's degree or higher in violin performance (MM) or a related field is required. A Doctorate in music is desirable.
  2. A strong background in both classical and contemporary violin repertoire including chamber music.
  3. A proven track record of successful teaching at the collegiate level.
  4. Exceptional violin performance skills with a history of public performances and recordings.
  5. Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
  6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  7. Willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues in the School of Music.
  8. A passion for teaching and a dedication to student success.
