Job Information

The Office of Clinical Experiences at Florida International University is seeking adjunct instructors to supervise Student Teaching interns.  

Responsibilities include:¿ 

  • Participate in orientation meetings at the beginning of the semester, as requested by the Director of Clinical Experiences or program faculty. 

  • Visit each student at the assigned school during the first week of the student teaching experience. 

  • Obtain the student’s schedule and arrange dates and times for formal observation visits.¿ 

  • Meet regularly during the semester with STs in building groups to clarify any issues, assignments, and/or due dates, and provide support and guidance to all STs. 

  • Review the ST syllabus, general information, and required forms, and be prepared to discuss with ST and/of Cooperating Teacher (CT)  any parts that may need clarification. 

  • Conduct a minimum of three (3) IPEGS Formative observations (two before the midterm conference and an additional one before the final conference). 

  • Schedule additional visits and observations, if necessary, to resolve conflicts or problems. 

  • Conduct a conference with the CT on each day of the observation. The student may be included in all or part of the conference. The items on the IPEGS Formative Observation Feedback Form should be discussed, and the adherence to guidelines for professional behavior and timelines established in the program.¿ 

  • If necessary, meet regularly with the CT to communicate program processes, provide an opportunity for teachers to ask questions, and to facilitate quality experiences for the STs. 

  • Report any potential problems or difficulties to the Director of Clinical Experiences as soon as possible. ¿ 

  • Review and evaluate all assignments; authorize students to upload Portfolio artifacts when completed at a “Proficient” or “Mastery” level¿ 

  • Evaluate each student’s critical tasks (SDB, SLID, LEP, CPP, PDJ) on Portfolio.¿ 

  • Provide ongoing support, encouragement, advice, and suggestions to each ST, so that student learning (Pre-K 12) occurs. 

  • Complete Lesson Observation & Evaluation forms (Qualtrics), Midterm and Final Evaluation forms, IPEGS Formative and Summative Performance of Evaluation Forms, and Portfolio evaluations. 

  • Determine and submit the final grade for each ST (PantherSoft Grading system). 

  • Remind the CT to submit the “Application for Certificate of Participation” if s/he desires to use it during the next 3 years. 

  • Complete the online FIU Supervisor Surveys

Minimum Qualifications

  • Hold a master’s degree or higher in an appropriate education field 
  • Have evidence of specialized training in clinical supervision (i.e., “clinical educator training”)
  • Possess at least three years of successful, relevant Pre-K through Grade 12 teaching, student services, or school administration experience 
  • An annual demonstration of experience in a relevant Pre-K through Grade 12 school setting as defined by State Board of Education rule 
  • Possess successful supervisory experience with developing teachers
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills 
  • Successfully complete the META Consent Decree training requirements (or ESOL endorsement) 
  • Successful administrative or supervisory responsibility 
  • Familiarity with local schools, programs, and instructional materials

Desired Qualifications

  • Hold a valid certification form the Florida DOE in the student’s major
  • Have evidence of Reading Endorsement or Certification 
  • Familiarity with M-DCPS or BCPS Elementary schools and/or K-8 Centers
  • Focused curriculum experiences match the student’s major - e.g., development, implementation, monitoring 
  • Terminal degree in related field

If selected, candidate will need to provide evidence of having completed the Clinical Educator training and obtain security clearance from the district in which the supervision will take place.
