The Applied Research Center is currently seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow to join our team of professionals.

Job Summary

The Post-Doctoral Appointee Program is designed to recruit outstanding Ph.D. applicants to assist the principal investigator in completing their research objectives as related to the scope of work.  The Ph.D. must have been conferred within one to five years prior to employment. This assignment is for a one-year period, it is grant funded, and this appointment may be renewed at management’s discretion based on excellent work performance and funding availability.  

Primary Job Duties

 

 

  • Conducts applied research in robotics and remote systems areas at the Florida International University’s Applied Research Center (ARC), supervising and mentoring student assistants.
  • Develop, design, and conduct research on mechatronics, robotics projects, and experiments in line with planning, reviewing progress, evaluating results, and producing scientific presentations and reports.
  • Integrate, simulate, and program systems using the Robotic Operational Systems (ROS2).
  • Develop feedback controls and embedded systems using microcontrollers.
  • Code software in C++ or Python.
  • Build bench scale mockups.
  • Present and demonstrate technologies to the public.
  • Contribute to developing externally funded research projects, providing support to secure $250,000 of external funding annually.
  • Annually publish research results in at least one peer-reviewed journal and present research findings annually at national and international research conferences to enhance the scientific stature of the FIU’s Applied Research Center Applied Robotics Group.
  • Formulate research methods and provide suggestions for improving quality, identify potential problems, recommend and implement solutions, and collaborate in developing new and current ARC research projects.
  • Conduct data analysis, interpretation, and implementation of research datasets and methodologies.
  • Assist in overseeing project performance, supervising and mentoring graduate and undergraduate research assistants.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field;
  • Experience in Code software in C++ or Python;
  • Demonstrated track record of publishing in peer-reviewed scientific literature
  • Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in writing one or more proposals for research funding;
  • Proficiency in writing and verbal skills to communicate research to colleagues and others;
  • Good interpersonal skills and collaborate with colleagues and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to travel to conferences and present findings
