Job Information

The Center for Children and Families (CCF) at Florida International University (FIU) is searching for a Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure earning) to support ongoing clinical service provision, training, and outreach through the Center for Children and Families Clinic. Primary responsibilities will include direct provision of psychoeducational and diagnostic evaluations for children and adolescents; serving as an on-site clinical supervisor for our world-renowned Summer Treatment Program; supervision and training of practicum students from the FIU Clinical Science PhD program and from the FIU Professional Counseling Psychology MS program; and contributing to community outreach and partnerships with area school districts. The successful candidate will hold a PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology or a related field. Candidates should be licensed as a psychologist in Florida. Pre-licensure candidates may be considered with the expectation of obtaining licensure within one year.

Expertise in evidence-based treatments for children and adolescents, particularly those with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in child and adolescent assessment, particularly with regard to one or more of the following: ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, specific learning disorders. The successful candidate is expected to be skilled in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of common cognitive, academic achievement, developmental, and neuropsychological tests. Training and experience in administration and interpretation of the Autism Diagnostic Observation System (ADOS) is preferred. Spanish language fluency is a plus.

The CCF is one of six University-Designated Preeminent Programs and has over 35 faculty associates—most of whom are faculty in the FIU Psychology Department—and more than 100 trainees in masters, doctoral, and professional programs who study child and adolescent mental health. The CCF currently has over $98 million of research funding – mostly NIH and IES, and largely based on this CCF funding, the FIU Department of Psychology is ranked 3rd among Psychology Departments in the U.S. in research funding (2020 NSF HERD Report).  The CCF has extensive relationships with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the third largest school district in the U.S. and many community agencies in Miami.  The CCF also has a close affiliation with and extensive funding from The Children’s Trust, the largest funder of children’s services in Miami-Dade County.

The CCF Clinic is an active outpatient mental health clinic providing state of the art, evidence-based mental health services for more than 1,200 children and adolescents yearly. The CCF Clinic provides a wide range of services including individual therapy, group therapy, psychoeducational evaluations, and school consultations. Additionally, the CCF Clinic features an Attention and Behavior Disorders Clinic providing specialty services for children and adolescents with ADHD and other behavioral concerns. Most notably, the Attention and Behavior Disorders Clinic features a world-renowned Summer Treatment Program for children with ADHD ages 6 to 12 developed by our founding director Dr. Bill Pelham. It is anticipated that the successful candidate would support the Summer Treatment Program as a clinical supervisor and by contributing to intake assessments.

Opportunities will be available to accrue supervised clinical hours towards licensure. The successful candidate will also have access to a variety of continuing education opportunities through the CCF Speaker Series and the Miami International Child and Adolescent Mental Health Conference. Although this position is primarily clinical in nature, given the strong research mission of the CCF, the selected candidate may also have opportunities to collaborate with research faculty on clinical research.

Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply to Job Opening ID 531733 at careers.fiu.edu and attach a cover letter and curriculum vitae.
